Running for Lives

Sunday morning, just as the sun was rising, some of the ladies of MindComet met at the entrance of Mead Gardens in Winter Park to participate in the 30th Annual Lady Track Shack 5k (3.1 miles).

The proceeds from this race allow under-privileged women in our community to get mammograms for free.

The forecast called for rain, but we weren't going to let a few raindrops hold us back! We're tougher than that and decked out in matching pink camouflage bandanas, we could prove it! We made our way to the starting line and joined the other 1,376 ladies who were up to the challenge. The gun sounded at 7:30 AM and the race was underway!

Even though it was just a little chilly, it was a beautiful morning for a run. Right around 7:50 AM the rain started to fall. And while it might appear that running in the rain is unpleasant, this light misting lasted just a few minutes and was actually quite refreshing!

The misting made the brick streets a little slick. We maintained our footing and not one of us took a "digger" and we all finished without incident.

So, how'd we do?

Pretty darn good!
